Contempt

In his study of contempt, Robert Solomon places it on the same spectrum with resentment and anger. He says: Contempt is anger directed at someone of lower status.

Contempt is a judgement—a justification—to condescend, to look down upon, to value yourself as more worthwhile than someone else.

Contempt is on vivid, rancid display. Each access of the news. Every opinion. All perspectives. Disrespect abounds. Human decency and societal civility have been aborted.

Contempt: I justify abolishing your value to maintain my own.

Contempt is not sustainable. It never was nor will it ever be. Yet, we persist in drinking its poison.

Stop drinking!

The world writhes in disrespect and justifies contempt. This is NOT the social system upon which your faith in Jesus Christ is established.

You are a person called and commanded to love.

As a Christian, love supersedes your personal preferences.

Establish yourself—and every other human being—as loved by God. Supreme love sabotages the social slaying of one another. Once established, dialogue has a chance.

Continue to get this wrong, as we have it now, and incivility will escalate.
