Today

Stop worrying about your life. Do not be anxious for tomorrow.
- Matthew 6:25a & 34a

When I consider Christ's counsel in light of the road to tomorrow, I cannot picture a well-paved thoroughfare. If the road was smooth and straight, why shouldn't I look into the future?

If I become engrossed in tomorrow, I will stub my toe, bust my nose, or worse yet, run my life into the ditch today

Why should I be intent on today?

Today is this moment—the current one—where Father is most real to me. It is the only moment I am guaranteed, and therefore, is the moment of my greatest need. Today means facing the demons of right now where I am most tempted to live independently. It is only in the overwhelming largeness of this moment that I can fathom the immensity of God's story as opposed to projecting my small scope of the future onto today in hopes of managing it myself. Today holds me accountable to trust Father's grace rather than contemplate the ingenuity I might foist upon tomorrow.

What is before you now?

What is Father's Word for you today?

What is your connection to His grace in this very moment?

Father, as I contemplate the road to tomorrow I realize I face only today. While I know you say, “My grace is sufficient,” and I assume that means for tomorrow, I realize you take care of tomorrow by providing your grace today.

I know—boy, do I know—that this life is filled with ungraciousness! Father, as I consider life, I ask that you grant me the discernment and wisdom to see your grace in ungracious
