How Do I Know the Will of God? (Part 4)

One more thing about understanding the will of God before we move to another subject: Let's assume you head down a given road for a period of time and conclude that you need to change course. Does this mean you missed God's perfect will for you?

Not necessarily. The goal of our relationship with Father is not to march in a straight course; it is to walk together under His leading. If you are listening and talking to Him and He wishes to go part way down a road and then change direction, so be it. The goal is not to get down the road; the goal is to walk with Father.

Live confidently. Rest in your Father's guidance and direction and love. Talk with Him. Listen to Him. Tell Him you are present and accounted for and desire nothing more than to be on the same journey He is on.

This is as opposed to asking Him to bless the way you have chosen and seeking a set of instructions that you attempt to carry out on your own. While many would observe your behavior and pronounce you a person who is squarely in the center of God's will, I would beg to differ.

Your Father wants more from you and for you than rote living and mechanical obedience. Consequently, He will often be reluctant to give you a prescribed course of action on general issues. He understands the temptation we face to have a set of instructions that we follow religiously with our nose to the grindstone, a deaf ear to the music of life, and the isolation of solitary performance.

Your Father wants you to live passionately and enjoy the journey with Him. How else will you acquire the great memories that you will share with Him for eternity of the adventures you took together during your tenure in this earthly life?
