Born in Grace

Imagine with me, proud parents looking at their newborn child. As they witness this miracle of life they pray together that one day their baby will grow up to be a human. Now that's ridiculous, isn't it?

We know that a baby is as much a human as someone who is 20, 30, or even 80 years old. They may not be able to do adult things, but with growth and training they will get there. My point is this: Babies are not human because they act like humans; they are human because they are conceived and born human.

In the same vein, your performance does not necessarily determine your identity. Birth determines your identity. If you are in Christ you were "born again." Your spiritual rebirth makes you a new creation, even if you don't always act like it. You will act like the person you believe yourself to be. That's why it's so important to know your true identity in Christ. When you act like a new creation in Christ, you'll be acting like who you really are.
