Seeing Your Security
Here's a driving tip: If you adjust your side view mirrors nearly all the way out you'll eliminate most, if not all, rear-view blind spots. It works, but if you're like me it's going to be tough to make the adjustment. Without seeing at least the side of my car as a guide, I feel insecure...out of control. After years of comfortably driving one way this is an ingrained pattern that is tough to break. It is a battle between my mind and emotions, fact and feeling, new ways and old ways.
The Christian life is a lot like readjusting your side view mirrors. In order to walk in the Spirit we must go with what we know to be the truth rather than to depend on what feels right to us. Feelings aren't always wrong, but they tend to put way too much value on comfort as a guide. Emotions are a wonderful gift from God, but they need to be measured against God's truth, and His Word is truth.
