Man's Purpose
What is the chief end of man? Do you recognize this question from the Westminster Catechism? There's a good chance you do. Of course the reply is, "Man's chief end is to glorify God, and enjoy Him forever."
God is thrilled-or glorified-when we take joy in Him? When we enjoy God, we prove Him to be worthy of our thoughts, time, and energy. That demonstration of our joy can then compel others to know Christ as we do. It's a wonderful circle of praise; we come to know God better, we enjoy Him in new and vibrant ways, He is glorified, and others come to know and enjoy Him as well.
The value of life is not dictated by what we do for Christ. Rather, it is what we allow Him to do in and through us each day. This brings glory to God and infuses our lives with joy. Think about how you can bring glory to God this week by enjoying Him in ever-greater ways. Your life, and probably the life of someone else, will be much better for having done so.
