Is it possible for a Believer to behave so poorly that God writes him off as a lost cause, a person who offended Him so badly that He has no more mercy?

When the most egregious of sins is contemplated, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit (Mt. 12:31) ranks number one and is the unforgivable sin. Woe! This begs the question: Who can commit this sin? Can I, can you?

We need a definition of terms: Blasphemy means to choose a life of independence and self-reliance when faced with the decision of salvation and dependence on Christ as your life. In other words, blasphemy occurs when a person chooses to depend upon themselves for eternal security instead of calling out to Jesus Christ for their salvation based upon His redemptive work.

The fundamental issue of the Scripture is this: who will we declare as God? If we deny the work of Christ's saving grace, then we declare ourselves god (with a lower case 'g'). If we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we declare God to be God (upper case 'G') and submit ourselves to Him and the leadership of His Holy Spirit.

Denial, as it relates to the issue of Christ's finished work at Calvary on our behalf, equates to blasphemy. However, struggling with life's issues on a daily basis and making a mixture of good decisions and poor decisions has nothing to do with blasphemy.
