How Do I Know the Will of God? (Part 2)

God speaks clearly about many issues in His Word, and in so doing, expresses His will.

For example, we don't have to go to Him and enquire about whether it is His will for us to sleep with our neighbor's wife or share Christ with a co-worker. These are expressly addressed in the Book He wrote.

Carrying this rationale forward, and getting to the issues that are harder to discern, there is no desire that is more clearly expressed by God than that we know and love Him and build a thriving relationship with Him.

This said, the message of the Scripture is that God desires us to talk with Him, to foster an interactive relationship with Him. We are to bring our burdens to Him, seek Him first, seek for Him as a treasure, meditate on the things He has said, thirst for His input, etc., etc.

In other words, I think our Heavenly Father is far more interested in us talking with Him about what is on our mind than He is in us getting a set list of instructions from Him and following them as a prescription for life.

If it is a given—and I trust it is with you—that I am listening and trusting Father to speak to me and guide me, then I must assume that God is willing and powerful enough to let me know if I'm heading off in the wrong direction. Anything short of this diminishes the relational aspect of our standing with God.

Bless you. More to come on the will of God next week.
